National & Regional Velvet Competitions.
In New Zealand each year most deer farming areas hold their own regional velvet competitions. In addition to these each year there is a “North Island Velvet Competition, held in different towns and then there is the “National Velvet Competition”.
The National Velvet Competition has become the industry benchmark for velvet and hard antler quality. It has been organised by the “Southland” branch of the N.Z.D.F.A for twenty six years and is held in Invercargill every year. It is open to the best heads from both the North and South Islands. It is a magnificent presentation of quality velvet and is often visited by overseas velvet buyers.
