Velvet Sire Auction

Sunday 12th January 2020 from 12pm. Auction at 1pm

Its been a funny old season this year with the velvet prices seeming to take ages to settle down and find its market price with a decrease from last year as you’ll all be aware. One thing that has really made a significant decrease is non-traditional (NT) velvet prices with a large difference between traditional style velvet and NT. This really does indicate where the market is heading and the demand for clean style velvet is becoming ever more apparent. So, with this in mind we believe it is so important that the Sire’s you use must obtain clean, traditional style if you are to receive top prices for your velvet. We believe this gap will get even greater as the years go on so having a hind base that carry’s clean style genetics is very important.

This year’s line-up reflects where we think the market is heading trying to keep the Sires we sell as clean as possible for your future benefit. Weight is also very important (naturally) and we are pleased to see a significant lift in our average of 6.9kg last year to 7.7kg this year. We have also added 9 more stags on offer than last years sale.

Many of the stags for sale in this catalogue are Pure English Warnham or Warnham/Woburn bloodlines and the rest a very close to pure’s. We strongly believe in English deer and are getting fantastic results from them so we will continue to keep these lines as pure as possible in the future.

Its been an exciting season for us, especially with the 3yr olds and have had several stags cutting over 10kg of clean velvet. Recently in the SCNO Velvet competition we came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the 3yr old section with the winner also taking out the Supreme Velvet Award. Also 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Open class, 1st in the Local Maiden, 2nd in the 4yr class and 3rd in the Sire of Three. At the Nationals we came 2nd and 3rd in the 3yr old class and 1st in the 5yr old class, who also got the Reserve Champion behind an Elk.

We hope to see you on the 12th and join us for a nice lunch and see these wonderful deer on display. If you have any questions or would like to view any of the stags leading up to the sale please don’t hesitate to call me.

Regards,

Mark Tapley
